kaberett: a patch of sunlight on the carpet, shaped like a slightly wonky heart (light hearted)

okay but like I'm having more feelings about Jupiter Ascending though

There is, floating around, the excellent summary along the lines of Jupiter Ascending is my favourite action movie about estate law (with a bureaucracy montage), and it's completely true; and it's also true that there is scathing critique of capitalism and of treating people as though they are things; but also it is fundamentally A Great Big Fuck You To Biological Essentialism; it is the idea that Your Biology Is Not Your Goddamn Destiny and Genetics Isn't Fucking Truth, and I adore it.

I mean, the other way I summarise this film, of course, is along the lines of:
subby space-angel werewolf!
gratuitous wingkink!
unsubtle menstruation-related wedding dresses!
evil accountant sibling!
SEAN BEAN'S PSYCHIC SPACE BEES.
... I'VE ALWAYS LOVED DOGS
it is glorious and I love it.

... THIS FILM. MY HEART. (Never mind my heart having moments all over all of the glorious worldbuilding meta about how of COURSE it couldn't all be fixed magically instantly because THAT'S NOT HOW BROKEN SYSTEMS WORK.)

Friday I'd made a plan to go see it, then saw this post and put off reading it until I'd seen it, and hell yes.

And the movie is a love letter to all the great SF movies of the 1980's and 1990's like *Brazil* and *The 5th Element*, and, and that there was some sort of legal system, in spite of the horribleness of the Entitled families.

I turned to @cynthia1960 during the closing credits and said, "when Aral Vorkosigan said 'all wealth is biological,' I don't think he had this in mind."

Boo. I kept meaning to see this in theatre, but heard a lot of bad things about it, so put it off, and now it's out of theatre. Sigh. Guess I'm waiting for it to come out on Amazon.
