Basement status update

It is 26.5degC down here -- but the very expensive vacuum leak is behaving itself (touch wood...) :-)

eta om nom nom okay I now know that I can turn one freezer-box of chilli plus one freezer-pack of tortillas plus one small pan of rice into four burritos, two for 11pm dinner and two for subsequent-day lunch. This is BEST basement-lunch (they say, yearning for a satsuma). Oh, and the temperature's dropped back down to 25.7degC...

Someday I will learn to comprehend Celsius without having to math...

That sounds... pleasant? But perhaps not as pleasant indoors. (Also, I get cold easily, so.)

As an American who's moved to the UK, I find the lamentations of the people here over what we call "finally, some decent weather!" in Minnesota to be charming. :) A friend convinced she was suffering in 30 degree (86 deg F) heat checked and found out it was actually 15 (59 deg F). I'm finding this kind of thing fairly common; my husband complains at weather in the 60s much like my family does weather in the 80s -- and much more humidity as well.

But I get cold easily too. (So I do spend most of the year miserable in Manchester, but I probably sound unsympathetic these couple of months when I find it bearable.)

I'm less sulky about it when (1) I get a chance to acclimatise sensibly and (2) the dysphoria isn't making me bind :-p

Those would make it less pleasant, yeeees. (I still mostly pout about it in the opposite direction - usually it's having to go Back Inside Into The Cold when it's glorious outside and work is all airconditioned... but that's probably more because of Inside, and, well, the days in which I love my work even half as much as it sounds like you do, those are the Very Good Days...)

(slightly more seriously, when it's this warm in lab I genuinely have to worry about the effects of liquid evaporation on concentration measurements of my samples!)

Nope, it is cool - I was being a bit unfairly facetious back :-)

I promise I will tell you if you say a thing in a way that rubs me up wrong, but honestly I can't really envisage that happening. (& I will do my best to respond appropriately & kindly if you need/want to tell me similar!)

Thanks. :) I'm really glad our interactions seem to be shaping up in ways I find most sensible and easy, but I reckon they're still new and few enough that I'm not quite assuming that everything will be interpreted in the nicest light.

And I know if I'm eg in any physical discomfort or working a lot, I'm way more likely to not have a sense of humor about stuff that I otherwise might. So that's another reason I'm cautious.

I tend to be pretty amusing when I'm sleep-deprived, by most accounts ;) Certainly I tend less towards "I'M GRUMPY AND HATE EVERYTHING" (at least when I'm getting strung out for data) and more towards "THAT WASTE PAPER BASKET IS THE MOST FASCINATING THING IN THE WORLD, WOW, WHO THOUGHT BINS WERE A GOOD IDEA, THEY WERE BRILLIANT" [actual example from the last 36 hours], so!

Heh, yes... I've been getting to hear my Person over in Germany do the "finally, some decent weather!" thing lately... as the Germans around him hide indoors and/or melt in the heat (he is also originally from here, here being the US) ;p

Without wishing to gloat, I am sometimes very glad to live somewhere where the climate suits me. It reaches about 20C in the summer, at which point I can be found in shorts and a t-shirt, loving it.
