tiny delight

Yesterday, on the drive, we found the greater part of a small light blue eggshell. (Dunnock? Starling?)

We have also, with the rain, been seeing (and relocating) lots of gastropods, so I suggested we move the eggshell into gastropod territory.

Checked back this morning, and while the blue is mostly intact the inside surface has been very clearly significantly monched. V v pleased to have provided delicious snack and also by CREATURES in general :-)

Creature story that I suspect you will enjoy: there is a reason my mother no longer composts anything except grass clippings.

That reason is: Various Goannas would regularly assemble around the side of our house, and lever the compost bin up so that the contents at the bottom spilled out, and rummage for EGGSHELLS.

Eventually she stopped composting eggshells, but they continued undeterred, because they also enjoy meat scraps and will go nuts hunting through for anything that smells of human kitchen, even if turns out to only be veggie scraps.

I distinctly - and fondly - remember sitting at my desk during my teen years, Staring Into Space thinking important teen thoughts, but also slightly watching Various Goannas Having A Feast at the bin about 15 feet away.
