In "I am never going to sneer at you for feeling ill" news

Colds. I hate them. I hate my head being full of snot. I hate my balance vanishing. I hate not being able to hear, and the pressure that goes with it. I hate needing to sleep so much more than my baseline.

I hate colds much, much more than I hate any other aspect of my illnesses.

I'm never interested in playing the Who's More Ill game, or the I'm Iller Than You So Count Your Blessings game, and this is some of why: colds are fucking miserable.

For the purposes of this post I'm pretending that the anxiety creature is throwing a tantrum about sneezing.

YES THIS SO MUCH ALWAYS. (plus it takes me months to recover in the throat, which throws my singing all out of balance, and even though i purposefully don't sing in any way that could possibly be considering even pretending to be professional, it still makes me very very sad. because one of my "i am too depressed to move" things is to play music & make up a harmony to go with it (uh, some are more successful than others, yes) and i cannot do that right now and it just.) (i have been "well" for a month now and still can't reliably speak in my normal range. singing is right out.) (hello surprise complaints! sorry about that.)

my actual least favorite thing about the cold itself is trying to sleep with a head full of snot. I know I need more sleep! but I can't get comfortable without sneezing or feeling like I'm about to choke on my own ick or being upright, which is not conducive to sleep for me. and then when I do fall asleep, it is Most Irritating to wake oneself up with a sneeze. (add that to my body's innate difficulties in handling less than 8-hour nights every single night of every single week, and you have a recipe for colds lasting twice as long as they really maybe ought to. I actually recovered from the flu faster than I do a normal cold, simply because they gave me sleep-drugs.)

(also i don't like chicken soup (partly because i don't like chicken? i haven't liked the soup longer than i haven't liked the meat) and i have no idea how that became the default sick-food of ... this country? the world?)

yes. cold suck. especially when people with relatively working immune systems spread them to others who then are stuck with them for MONTHS instead of just taking a goddamn sick day. *gnashes teeth* honestly, when I worked at a university I would get month-long cold things that were just the worst thing ever. and then I would go back to work and someone else would be there with their Kleenex and it would start all over again.

sorry, this was your rant space. <3 I hope you feel loads better soon!

You have my sympathies. I tend to get the damned things as "a couple of weeks of low-grade grotty" rather than "a couple of days of horrible" most of the time this last few years, but I have no strong feelings on which is worse, they;re both rotten.
