Hello everybody!

I know we've just had a string of really big love memes, but a comment floated past on my reading list today and I thought: yes.

In particular, someone was expressing a desire for a "not a darkroom orgy" meme for Valentine's Day: not because they don't intend to participate in the local darkroom, and not because they think there's anything wrong with the darkroom, but just because they'd like a dedicated space for something that isn't quite that. And, well, it can be a rough time of year for people, especially with the message that monogamous heterosexual relationships are the most important kind of relationship, so I think a healthy dose of respect and love might be no bad thing. <3

This post will close to new nominations on the evening (GMT) of Sunday the 17th, but I intend to keep unscreening comments to threads for as long as they come in!

I'm really happy you are so well loved. When I first met you I kind of wrote you off as one of those annoying, self-important geeks, but I've come to realise that's mostly protective camouflage. You're thoughtful and compassionate, and you often come up with incredibly original takes on some topic of discussion that completely change my perspective.

I don't know you well enough to say I love you, but I certainly admire and respect you. You work so hard at acting compassionately towards yourself and others, and communicating your needs clearly, and I think you're really amazing. I could definitely use a little encouragement.

i've only met them IRL once (and they were very friendly to a random friend of a friend who was feeling a bit nervous and overwhelmed at a big noisy gathering - and spoke thoughtfully about all sorts of things including shared health/disability issues)
Online i find they are deeply thoughtful, generous with their ideas and support, funny, interesting about many subjects particularly cooking and ROCKS. And they do many things that make the world better place

After everything life's thrown at you over the past year (and then some), I am so impressed that you are still going and still trying and that on top of all that you landed your AMAZING JOB. In terms of work ethic and tenacity I have one hell of a lot to learn from you, and that is before we get anywhere near your kindness. <3

Rysmiel has been part of my life for over a decade, and one of the best things about this is the way they pay attention, and make an effort to see me. Somehow, despite the ways in which we're quite different people, there are a lot of congruences, areas where we may start in different places but wind up with approaches that work well together.

You're a good person to talk to about a lot of things.

When I was trying to make a medical decision last year, you took time out from your very full agenda to look things up and synthesize them for me. It's not just the information, it's that you cared enough to offer, and that you didn't have an agenda or a pre-conceived idea of what choice I should make.

I'm getting kicked in the pants with feeling pathetic. Some love right now would be, well, lovely.
