adventures in scripts

My distraction of the minute is scripts and handwriting. This is definitely related to the whole bullet journalling Thing, in that I enjoy making e.g. days and dates Visually Distinct and also Pretty, but it's also a revival of a thing I was briefly Extremely Interested In circa at the age of approximately 10.

... I am also mostly doing better at sleeping.

So! When I was miserably insomniac the other night, I spent some time Looking Up Writing, and have now worked out how to hand write both double-storey a and ampersands in way(s) that don't leave me hating the result.

(The former: start with a backward s, then join it up at the bottom. The latter: I need to be really careful about keeping the up-stroke straight rather than concave-upward, and also paying more attention to the proportions of the loops than is honestly ideal, but it'll hopefully sink in in time. Bonus: I have also, by paying attention to what a variety of fonts do with them, worked out a few variants I'm happy with.)

... and also, because A was feeling enthusiastic about getting out his collection of fountain pens and inks and then wanted an excuse to get me presents, I now own a Pilot Penmanship (demonstrator pen, i.e. transparent so you can see the ink slosh around, plus an actual extra-fine nib). I have been playing with it (A filled it with Diamine Havasu Turquoise from his stash for me) during workrave-enforced breaks, and occasionally elsewhen; I am enjoying myself a great deal.
