And also: this is chemistry specifically designed for thallium. Chromatography for vanadium uses very very dilute HF in columns; procedures for other elements are similarly varied in terms of acids, reagents, etc, in addition to "where the stuff comes off, volumetrically". Designing new column chemistry to extract An Element (or extract it Better, or whatever) can easily add up to A Journal Paper and A Thesis Chapter both.
