I'm a bit conflicted about the gender-neutral titles, though -- where gender neutrality is possible, I think that's broadly in keeping with the spirit of the English (Captain, Medic, Lieutenant, etc) in treating gender-as-irrelevant even if it's not in keeping with the practice of how it was done in the original? So *handwobble*, by which I mean "I do take your point and remain kind of indecisive on the topic, not least because I do keep sort of aggressively cobbling together neuter nouns to refer to myself in German so I find someone else doing that work a massive relief"...
