... oh goodness, I don't even know where to start. You are definitely another one in the "too cool to be hanging out with me" category!

I am perpetually impressed by Amy's enthusiasm - and by their willingness to share it, and to encourage people, and to mentor people, and. They make works of utter beauty, and then they are incisive, and I can never decide what makes me happiest. But: always, always, always, this person brings happiness and support and light and space to breathe.

Simon has been supportive & encouraging & informative every time I've asked it of him, without fail, including on some Difficult Stuff it really wasn't his job to deal with. I am genuinely impressed by anyone who can deal with me suddenly and unexpectedly stumbling into a full-blown public freakout, let alone people who can do it with grace. ;)

Also? This is my go-to person on green energy. He is doing a Seriously Interesting PhD in Seriously Beautiful Surroundings, and he regularly goes on ambles and takes gorgeous photographs of same. Strongly recommend.

This is the Boything.

When I was depressed beyond moving, he came around regularly to chivvy me out of bed and into the shower. While I was showering he did the washing up. I end up crying my eyes out on him at 1am once every few months. I am grumpy and sulky and extremely growly in the mornings, and he takes care of me anyway. I cannot even begin to express how grateful for this I am. He makes me happy and contented and safe.

And: he is a CHEMIST and I get to talk CHEMISTRY THINGS with him, though we also grump at each other about ~computer stuff~ (that being his Main Thing these days). He designs puzzles and he games enthusiastically and comprehensively; he likes fairy tales and strange magic and grumpy cats and people. In public, he pretends to be dignified.

I cannot even with the words. ♥

Rachel is a local-to-me friend; she talks about books & feminism & (co-)parenting, along with really stellar posts like Pregnancy and Consent.

She makes me welcome and she makes space for me and she makes me feel listened to, and then she says stuff and I am overwhelmed all over again by how much I have to learn from her, and how impressed I am by her political work. She understands about making space for people with oppressions that differ from hers, & she is kind & -- I am so grateful to know her, and she is *way* up the list of People I Want To Spend More Time With But Am Too Crap To Say This To Except Indirectly. There's a recommendation for you. ;)

I keep being baffled by how many amazing people are willing to put up with me. Grateful, don't get me wrong, but very baffled. I am trying to have faith that there's a reason for it, but most of the time I genuinely don't understand.

-- fyreharper is someone I met via a love meme hosted by jjhunter, where I was staggered to see her not only self-nominating but pride-threading that thing up. I have never dared to self-nominate for a love meme and I am generally capable of saying good things about myself only if (1) I am super pissed-off with someone else or (2) it is explicitly a space for saying good things about myself, so I am endlessly impressed by having the guts to take care of oneself that hard.

She is beautifully, wholeheartedly enthusiastic about science; she is lovely on the topic of poetry; and she is firmly creative, be it cooking (with which I can empathise) or sewing (by which I am endlessly intimidated) or any of a huge number of other things.

So glad to know you, even if you are quiet ♥

Wait, let's try that again: he is wry & funny & kind, & he knows all sorts of things about all sorts of things & is happy to share his knowledge; and he was very patient about not being spiky while I was being baffled by Buffy & Angel, and subsequently very kind when s7 of Buffy did a number on me. Seriously, anyone who can manage that after several months of me being at best rude about the Show Of Their Heart deserves some kind of accolade.

FURTHERMORE he is an excellent geek & an excellent cook & he came to my graduation & congratulated me, which he didn't have to, and he is Generally Lovely And A Good Sort. Plus he rock-climbs, which means I get a regular infusion of pictures of lovely rocks via him [plus, you know, some people, I guess?]. Delighted to know him, & you would be too. :-)
