I-- in ways that really disconcert me, I am more okay with Buffy/Spike than with any of Buffy's other relationships? And in part that's because Spike knows he's evil and self-serving, and rolls his eyes about it, and then changes, where everyone else is Broody Nice GuyTM who fucks Buffy over without even noticing or caring.
And I know we're not supposed to find him sympathetic, and I know that he is evil, but the big thing for me? Is that he knows it too, and he's doing something about it, and I have a lot of time for that.
-- and so. Yes. Difficult and hard, and difficult and hard in a whole lot of ways that I suspect the writers didn't mean to put there. :-/
Thank you for sharing. ♥
(CONTENT NOTE: rape. I also have Thoughts on the rape arc, and how woefully out-of-character it was, and how much it appears to have been inserted because they desperately needed something that made Xander not the worst guy on the show.)
