White Lady (not from Oz) here. I think this write-up conveys the general tenor of the panel pretty well, but not necessarily the specifics. For example, I said clearly that Whedon had serious problems with race, and that the only way I'd been able to justify the world-building in Firefly to myself at all was by coming up with that, and it still didn't work. But having been on the Problematic Fandoms panel, that was in my head. Whedon does some things well, but race isn't any of them.

Your comment on Welshgate kind of illustrates the point I was trying to make about US fandom dominating the discourse. It comes off as denying the experiences and history of a people who have suffered oppression. It's not really evident today, and not clear to an outsider. But if you read some of the parliamentary debates on the teaching of the Welsh language in schools -- debates that took place during the lifetimes of a lot of the con attendees -- the arguments might surprise a lot of people. Oppression of the Other comes in many forms.
